Tip from Mahjong Players Leads to Rye PD Arrest After Home Entry Attempt in Louden Woods
In the wake of a home entry attempt in Louden Woods and a tip by local mahjong players on North Street, Rye PD arrested a 21 year old suspect on Monday, November 4th on multiple charges.
On Monday around 2:30pm, Rye PD was notified by a resident of Louden Woods of a male attempting to enter her residence. A canvass of the area was immediately conducted as well as a video canvass. An image of a male was obtained and the investigation continued.
At 6:25 pm the same day an alert group of women playing mahjong observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of North Street and The Ives. A subsequent investigation by Rye Police Officers confirmed that the vehicle in question had been reported stolen out of Malverne, New York earlier in the day.
A party standing outside the vehicle identified as 21 year old Allen Jose Corona of Malverne, New York was taken into custody by responding units. Corona was found in possession of the stolen vehicle’s keys, 50 pills in an unmarked package, a screwdriver, and a razor scraping tool. Corona was also identified as the suspicious party attempting to enter the residence in Louden Woods earlier.
Corona was arrested without incident. The defendant was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, as well as Criminal Trespassing 3rd degree. Corona was turned over to Detectives from the Nassau County Police Department to face burglary charges there.
Corona is due back in Rye City Court on Tuesday November 19, 2024 at 9:00am. Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
