Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook Swimming and Diving Falls in Season Opener
The Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook Swimming and Diving Team kicked off their 2024-25 season with a Friday evening defeat to the Harrison Huskies on December 6. Despite the 97-76 loss, Head Coach Katherine Konopka was happy with her team’s effort in their first league 2 game.
“[We] did a great job racing the other team tonight… a talented Harrison team,” Konopka told MyRye.com in her postgame report. “Six team members competed at their first varsity swim meet tonight including Sami Jazbeh, Jake Radwaner, Jackson Rindahl, Jonathon Rosenbluth, Nick Stocks, Henri Von Homeyer.”
Stocks placed first in the 200-meter freestyle in his first varsity competition – the only one of that group of six to do so. Other winners for Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook include George Papaioannou (100 fly) and Finn Hansen (1M diving). In the end, however, Harrison was just too much for Konopka’s young team to handle. It’s Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook’s first loss in the last two seasons combined – they went a perfect 7-0 in league 3 last year.
The team (0-1) will aim for their first win of the season against Yorktown – Somers on Monday, December 9. The meet is scheduled for 4:30pm at Mildred E Strang Middle School in Yorktown Heights.
