The Rye Fire Department battled a house fire in the Greenhaven section of Rye early Sunday morning. Fire alarm records show Rye FD responded to a structure fire at 4:51am on Sunday at 2 Lane Way off Barlow Lane in Greenhaven.

According to the authorities, initial reports indicated that the front door of the residence was on fire but may have been extinguished prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke showing from the roof of the structure, prompting the transmission of a working 10-75 “working fire,” which initiated additional resources and personnel to the scene. Agencies providing support to Rye FD included Westchester County Department of Emergency Services, Purchase, Larchmont, Port Chester and Town of Mamaroneck Fire Departments as well as Port Chester EMS.

Firefighters quickly determined that the fire had spread into the void space above the vaulted ceiling, an area with no direct access. Due to the limited access, crews had to pull down portions of the ceiling, cut through the roof, and open the gable ends of the structure to reach the fire and effectively extinguish it. The incident was contained, and all units were cleared from the scene at 7:31am.

Officials did not say if anyone was at the home during the time of the fire.

Property records indicate the waterfront property is owned by 2 Lane Way LLC, having been purchased in 2012 for $3.9 million. It was listed for rent this past summer for $17,000/month before the listing was removed. 2 Lane Way LLC was formed in December of 2011 and records show a postal address that matches the Waldhauser Law Firm in Jericho, New York.

The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team was requested to investigate the fire, and their findings determined that the fire was caused by an electrical issue. The Rye FD said it “encourages residents to prioritize fire safety by having an evacuation plan in place and ensuring that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.”
