Boys Basketball Drops Season Opener in OT, 67-64
The Rye Boys Basketball Team suffered a close defeat on Friday evening, falling 67-64 to Nanuet High School in overtime. Both teams had 54 entering the final four minute period, but it was Mekhi Vines for the Golden Knights with eight points in OT to help secure their victory.
“I was very proud of the effort the team gave, especially when many things were not going their way,” Head Coach Tom Proudian told MyRye.com after the game. “They refused to quit and were able to force the game into overtime.”
Rye trailed an extremely close game for many points in the fourth quarter, but tied the game with under a minute to play in regulation.
Jake Kessner scored 23 points on 9/13 shooting to pace the Garnets, which included 3/4 from beyond the arc. Kessner also secured 12 boards for the double-double. “He was a dominant force throughout the game at both ends of the court,” Proudian said of his 6′ 5″, 240 lbs star.
Sophomore point guard Ben Hudson tallied 17 points off the bench in a breakout performance, knocking down five triples. “Ben showed great confidence and composure, and made several clutch shots, especially during crucial points of the game,” Proudian raved.
Rye (0-1) won’t have too much time to dwell on the tough loss, as they play host to Rye Country Day this Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in the Garnet’s home opener. Tip off is scheduled for 4:30pm at the Rye High School gym. Watch it here. Watch the loss to Nanuet here.
