Phoebe Greto dominated the paint, especially in the first half, in the Rye Girls Basketball Team’s clutch 61-53 win over crosstown rival Harrison on Monday, January 27. Greto scored 30 points and was involved with blocks and rebounds as well in a career-best offensive performance. She scored nearly half of Rye’s points in the win.

Paige Tepedino was second on the Garnets with 15 points, also moving the ball effectively and forcing chaos on defense. Harrison struggled with Rye’s high-pressure press defense, although the strategy eventually caused Rye to end up in foul trouble. Nonetheless, the tactics from Head Coach Margo Hackett paid off, as Rye escaped with the eight point win.

Rye led by thirteen at halftime before their lead shrank to two in the third quarter. A couple huge threes from Stella Maresca and then Molly Kennedy helped restore Rye’s multi-score advantage, which they held throughout the fourth quarter. She knocked down four free throws in total, including three in the final minute, to provide crucial insurance as Harrison began to desperately foul. Maresca’s seven points were third on the Garnets behind Greto and Tepedino.

Rye (13-1) continues an incredible season at home on Thursday, January 30, as they host Byram Hills. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm at the RHS gym with a copycat JV contest to follow. Watch it here. Watch the win vs Harrison here.
