A house fire in the Greenhaven section of Rye late Wednesday afternoon was knocked down by the Rye Fire Department. Firefighters found and safely removed two dogs in the home while containing the fire.

At 5:18pm on Wednesday (March 12, 2025), Rye FD was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at 65 Rye Road in Greenhaven. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a severed electrical service line in the driveway and immediately requested the assistance of Con Edison. As crews continued to investigate, they observed smoke emanating from the property, followed by active fire visible in the garage area of the home.

A working fire was transmitted by Rye FD personnel at the scene, bringing additional Rye Fire Department personnel and mutual-aid resources to the scene and to Rye FD headquarters to other emergency calls in the city.

Two hose lines were quickly deployed, and searches were conducted inside the home. During the search, two dogs were found and removed to the rear fenced yard. The fire was brought under control swiftly, and crews contained it to the garage, preventing further damage to the property. Firefighters also checked for any fire extension above the area of origin and successfully vented the structure to ensure no hidden flames remained.

Records show to homeowner as Alpesh Patel, who bought the home in 2024 from Robin T Jovanovich, the former owner and publisher of The Rye Record newspaper.

The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team was called to the scene to investigate the nature of the fire. Their investigation determined that the cause was related to the failure of electrical equipment within and around the main electrical panel.
