On Tuesday, June 24, the Rye Middle School Class of 2025 officially marked their transition to high school at the Moving Up Ceremony. Once they received their diplomas, the students assumed their new roles as the incoming Rye High School Class of 2028.
The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance, read by Assistant Principal Nicholas Clair and interpreted by RMS ASL students Olympia Bowhill, Alicia Goerler, Luke Meyers, Valerie Rende, and Demi Rosario. The choral students followed with the national anthem, sung by Morgan Anderson, Claire Coghlan, Emma Crozier, Celeste Holler, Eliza May, Nandi Mofya-Garbe, Annabelle Palermo, Christiane Phy and conducted by Ms. Victoria Jessie.
Principal Joseph DiGiovanni opened the ceremony by welcoming graduates, their families and friends, and by introducing guests from the Rye City School District. The program continued with an address from Ms. Jane Anderson, the president of the Board of Education.
Nicholas Chair presented the Rye Rotary Special Award to RMS student Daniel Kehoe.
The graduation diplomas were then handed out to Team R, M, and S, respectively. In between the conferral, students Morgan Anderson, Claire Coghlan, Emma Crozier, Celeste Holler, Eliza May, Nandi Mofya-Garbe, Christiane Phy sang “Seasons of Love” by Jonathan Larson, and student Andrew Moreland performed Mozart’s Concerto No. 4 in E-flat Major on the horn.
Principal DiGiovanni concluded the ceremony, wishing his goodbyes to the Class of 2025, and Andrew Hara, Principal of RHS, welcomed them as the Class of 2029.
