The #2 Rye Volleyball team advanced to the Section 1 Class A finals on Wednesday, November 5, as they swept #3 Ardsley 3-0. The Garnets have now won all nine sets they have played in the postseason ahead of the championship game on Saturday.
In what has become custom, a slew of different skillsets helped Rye attack and defend more efficiently than the Panthers. Amelie Modesto set with precision, ending the match with 31 assists (10.3 per set). She also sprinkled in 5 kills of her own and played some defense with 5 digs.
Both Emma Lunstead (15) and Valeria Medina (18) reached double digits in the dig column, with Medina setting a new season high. Phoebe Greto and Audre Campbell combined for 25 kills between them, and the former led Rye with 5 blocks, with Campbell right behind with 3. Giorgia Brizio also made an impact at the net with 2 blocks to go with 2 aces and 7 kills.
#2 Rye (18-4, 3-0 postseason) faces off against #4 Tappan Zee in the Sectional finals on Saturday, November 8, at 11:00am. The Zees are coming off an upset win over #1 Lakeland, setting up a must-watch championship game at the County Center this weekend.
