
The third-seeded Rye Girls Basketball team opened the Sectional playoffs with a resounding 68-16 win over #14 Roosevelt on Saturday, February 21, advancing to the elite eight. The Garnets defended home court with ease, building a 31-4 lead after just one quarter of play and not relenting all afternoon.
In a balanced day for the offense, Phoebe Greto – playing with a knee brace – led the way with 21 points, five more than the entire Roosevelt team combined. Charlotte Storz added fiftenn and Stella Maresca twelve, with the point spread around up and down the starting lineup and bench.
After the hot first quarter, the Garnets put together a remarkable 24-0 run across the second and third periods, turning a 36-8 lead into a 60-8 advantage before they finally ceded a basket in the final 1:02 of the third.
The Garnets (17-4, 1-0 postseason) advance to the round of eight, where they will host #6 Suffern for their final home game of the season. Tip-off against the Mounties is scheduled for 5:00pm on Wednesday, February 25. Replay the round of 16 win here.
