A local Rye ten year old has developed an app that uses artificial intelligence to deliver encouraging, constructive vocal feedback to young singers. Hazel Eden, a young actor, singer, and 5th Grader at Osborn School has launched SongCoach — a free app designed to give kids the kind of candid, supportive coaching feedback that helps them improve singing skills.

“My name is Hazel and I am 10 years old and I made this because I am an actor and love to sing and I know from personal experience that some people give feedback based on what you want to hear instead of how you did. I wanted an app that could give honest feedback on my singing to help improve and give me confidence in my work. I hope this app is helpful for you too!”

SongCoach allows users to upload a recording of themselves singing and receive detailed, age-appropriate feedback in the voice of a warm, encouraging musical theater coach. The app identifies vocal strengths, offers clear areas for improvement, and provides simple exercises to help singers practice and grow — without the harshness or vagueness that can sometimes come from well-meaning friends and family.

The app was built with help from her father Brian Eden, an advertising agency creative director, as a father-daughter collaboration. Hazel conceived the idea and drives the vision for the product, while her father Brian handled the technical development and implementation.

“Hazel identified a real problem that a lot of young performers face,” Brian said. “She wanted feedback that was honest but also kind — like having a great theater coach in your pocket. That’s exactly what we built.”
