The Rye Softball team fell on Opening Day on Tuesday, April 7, as they lost to Harrison 15-5. The Garnets could not keep up with the Huskies’ offense after a strong start, ceding at least one run in every defensive inning.

“We got off to a great start in the game, but made a few mistakes and Harrison was able to take advantage of them,” Head Coach Alex Tejera told MyRye.com. “We never gave up and fought hard until the very end.”

The Garnets struck three times in their first offensive inning of the year thanks to a two-out, two-run single from Ava Rollano and a steal of home from Tessa Labowitz one batter later. However, Rye went silent until the sixth inning, before which Harrison scored 12 times.

Penelope Gilmore went 3-3 with two runs and Ava Rollano went 3-3 with the two RBIs and a later double and run scored. Sophiah Collins singled for her first career hit in her first varsity at-bat.

Rye (0-1) has a quick turnaround before their next game, which is later today, April 8, at Pearl River at 4:30pm.
