The Rye Boys Tennis team topped their crosstown rival Rye Country Day on Wednesday, April 29, winning 6-1. The Garnets won everywhere except at third singles to clinch their third consecutive victory.
“Rye had a solid win with so many great matches where the Rye guys kept their composure and fought hard for the victory,” Head Coach Sue Dickson told MyRye.com. “Lou Kim-Reuter and Filip Glitterstam continued with their dominance at first doubles.”
One of the few lineup constants this season has been Kim-Reuter and Glitterstam, and they rallied to win set one 7-5 and completed the sweep with a much less stressful 6-1 score in set two. Marcos Becker and Xavier Morell split their first two sets and won the tiebreak 10-5. Philip Karajannis, Dylan Smailes, Carter Hudspeth, and Nate Bertisch won their matchups in straight sets, with neither pairing losing more than three games in a set.
Henry Groves and Luke Gordon both defeated twins Winston and Connor Krow for the Wildcats respectively at first and second singles. Groves won 6-0, 6-1, and Gordon 6-4, 3-0 (retired).
Rye (8-3) has quickly righted the ship after a 1-3 midseason stretch, winning 20 of the 21 individual matches across the last three contests. They have a tougher task ahead against Horace Greeley tomorrow, April 30, on the road at 4:30pm.
“The season is winding down, and next week we have two to three matches left for the season,” Dickson said. “Only one is a league match. If all goes well, Rye tennis will be peaking at the right time.”
