The Rye Girls Soccer team capped off their seaosn-opening 5-game road trip with a league shutout on Friday, September 18, as they trounced Harrison 3-0. The Garnets have yet to play at home yet this season, but also have yet to lose, and are now 1-0 in league play.
“Rye had a strong showing in its first league match of the season,” head coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com. “The Garnets controlled play from the opening whistle, consistently applying pressure and keeping Harrison on the defensive.”
Charlotte Keenan struck first, giving Rye an early 1-0 lead. Jill DeSanto doubled the lead in the second half before Keenan added her second of the night to finish the scoring. Harkin Brown, Penny Timchak, and Shira Rand all picked up assists.
“The Garnets’ defense was equally impressive,” Savage said. “Blake Sasse recorded four saves to earn the shutout, while Eleanor Pandl, Julia Carballo, and Hannah Jachman all turned in stellar defensive performances to keep Harrison off the scoreboard.”
Rye (4-0-1) can finally look forward to their home opener on Tuesday, September 22, as they host Pelham at 5:00pm. Rye will be looking to improve to 2-0 in league play. Watch it here. Replay the win over Harrison here.
