The Rye Field Hockey team picked up a much needed get-right win on Wednesday, September 23, as they crushed Byram Hills 9-0. The Garnets entered the contest – their first league match of the season – looking to end their three-game losing skid, and they accomplished that with ease against a heavily overmatched Bobcats opponent.
“Robyn Wilmont opened the scoring in the first quarter, finishing off a corner opportunity after collecting a rebound in front of the cage,” head coach Valerie Montano told MyRye.com on Thursday. “The goal set the tone for the game as we went on to a 9-0 victory, with strong offensive pressure and contributions throughout the lineup.”
Wilmont ended the day with another goal and assist for three points. Liv Prata (hat trick) and Heidi Kloepfer (two goals) co-led the Garnets with four points each. Kaitlyn Coyne and Izzy Thomas scored the other two tallies, while Cate Puzzouli notched two assists. Rye directed a shocking 36 shots (not a typo) on goal.
The Garnets (2-3) will presumably have more difficulty scoring in their next game on Friday, September 25, against Pelham. The rivals face off at 4:30pm with a JV game between the two schools to follow.
