In a clash of two undefeated squads, the Rye Girls Soccer team prevailed and advanced to the regional championship game.
The Garnets shut out Section 9’s Mount Academy 3-0 on Wednesday, November 4, eliminating the Eagles from state title contention. The result marks the 13th straight postseason game without allowing a goal for the Garnets dating back to last year.
“Rye continued its impressive postseason run with a convincing 3–0 victory over previously undefeated Mount Academy,” head coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com. “Rye’s defense was outstanding throughout the match, remaining organized and disciplined while shutting down a talented Mount Academy team.”
Harkin Brown struck twice in the contest, her first during the regular run of play on a well-placed shot and her second thanks to a corner kick assist from Shira Rand. Brown went on to set up the third and final Rye tally of the night by delivering a corner kick onto the forehead of Hannah Jachman.
The Rye defense and goalkeeping made the lead stand up, as they have been during postseason play for two straight seasons. Savage and his group have not allowed a postseason goal since 2024.
The Garnets (19-0-2) advance to the Class A regional title game on Sunday, November 8, at Farmingdale State College. Rye will face either Section 8 champion Seaford (12-4-2) or Section 11 champion Mount Sinai (15-2-1). Those two teams will square off on Thursday, November 5, at 6:00pm to determine who will have the right to try to score on Rye.
