American Women Artists Talk with Debbie Wells
April 3
American Women Artists Talk with Debbie Wells at The Rye Arts Center
Wednesday, April 3rd from 6:00pm – 7:00pm
Price: $10 for non-members / $8.00 for members
To celebrate the women artists of America, Debbie Wells of Artful Buzz compiled a comprehensive list showcasing a variety of talented women who have helped shape the art world. Their professional achievements and struggles are discussed, as well as interesting facts about their personal lives. See who inspires you! Learn about famous artists, like abstract-expressionist painter Helen Frankenthaler and Amy Sherald (she painted Michele Obama’s official portrait), as well as bring attention to many who were not in the forefront, such as Clara Driscoll, the real designer behind the Tiffany Lamp, and Beatrice Wood, the “Mama of Dada” (and the inspiration behind the character of Rose from “Titanic”). The list even expands to women who were behind the scenes as gallerists, such as art marketing genius Edith Halpert, and iconic art patron/archivist Helen Clay Frick. Also expect the unexpected creative heroines – from fashionistas, cartoonists and foodies to women making strong statements about the environment and other contemporary issues. It’s an original presentation filled with girl power, art appreciation, creativity, news about today’s art scene and art history all wrapped up into one. Join Debbie Wells of Artful Buzz for this educational and entertaining lecture.
