Comfort & Joy: An Innkeeper’s Holiday Celebration at Square House Museum

FreeThe Rye Historical Society invites the community to embark on a festive journey through time with “Comfort & Joy: An Innkeeper’s Holiday Celebration” at the Square House Museum.
This enchanting Square House Holiday Tour 2023 will take place on two Saturdays during December.
When: Saturday, December 9, and Saturday December 16th with timed tours available between 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm.
General Timing: Guided Tours will be taking place at timed intervals lasting approximately 15-20 minutes,
Where: Square House Museum, One Purchase Street, Rye, NY 10580
Tickets: Admission is free and open to the public, with donations gratefully accepted.

Christmas in Rye two centuries ago featured unique traditions that have evolved over time. Unlike today, there were no candy canes, Christmas stockings, or festive trees adorning homes. Instead, the Havilands enjoyed apple pudding for something sweet and indulged in bowls of hot, spicy punch. The families may have made pomander balls or delighted in crisp gingerbread cookies and sipped rich hot chocolate.
