First Annual Bird Day
October 12 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
October 12 is Henry Bird’s birthday and every year, in the heyday of the Bird Homestead, his family would return from their archaeological discoveries abroad, their paleontological digs, and various adventures throughout the community and across the globe. Because this day is all about family and community. We are so excited to share this experience with our entire community at our First Annual Bird Day.
This Saturday, October 12, 2024, the Bird Homestead & Meeting House Conservancy is hosting an “open homestead” – we’ve been working hard to clean up the property so that the full 2 acres is available to discover and explore for everyone.
Festivities begin at 2pm, when we welcome three generations of the Bird Family, including the two oldest living members of the family. You don’t want to miss their stories of the inspiringly eccentric characters that make this family so worth remembering. We will also be sharing home videos from the 1940s and 1950s, which will give you a glimpse of how the property will look once we have fully completed the landscape renovation.
At 3pm, we will be screening Save the Sound’s new documentary, “Reconnected: Restoring the Rivers of Long Island Sound,” which includes references to the Blind Brook estuary that is literally our backyard.
Please come by to help us wish The Birds and our entire community a very Happy Bird Day. Light refreshments will be served.
