On July 3, 2019 Brewer's hardware on the Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck closed for good. The closing was sudden and mysterious. This writer won't be surprised if expensive townhouses or condos replace this hallowed retailer.
If you were a home owner or a boat owner, the expertise and the options inside the seemingly small but actually cavernous hardware store was endless. You could solve your problem with one or two screws purchased for a dollar or so. You choice was a regular screw, or one on stainless steal or brass. The options and accommodated use cases were endless.
Needed rope? There was an entire wall of spool after spool of rope.
Who or what comes even close to replacing Brewer's? Who is the poor substitute? Surely not Home Depot. Perhaps a combination of YouTube and Amazon – but not nearly as satisfying.
