Letters of Pride: Emily Keenan, Eve Lane

MyRye.com is publishing a series of letters of support for raising the Pride flag on City flagpoles. The letters were sent to the City ahead of the City Council voting to fly the flag, and are a matter of public record.

Dear City Council Members –

I write in support of the RHS GSA whom I understand is advocating to raise the pride flag during Gay Pride month in June.

I feel especially strongly that we send a beacon of inclusivity to our gay neighbors, particularly our children, and raising the pride flag is an important part of that. I would love to see this generation of gay children feel fully embraced and supported, something I know my generation of LGBTQ youth did not feel.

Let’s raise the pride flag with the pride of knowing that our society has made huge leaps in gay rights over the last several decades, and that we must continue to take action to ensure that all of our children and neighbors feel safe and valued in our town.

Thank you so much for your attention to this issue. Best,

Emily Keenan

Eve Lane
