Letters of Pride: Jessica Reisman

MyRye.com is publishing a series of letters of support for raising the Pride flag on City flagpoles. The letters were sent to the City ahead of the City Council voting to fly the flag, and are a matter of public record.

Unfortunately I watched the council meeting last night. I was inspired by the brave students stories and united calls for actions. I was heart-broken and shocked by many of the council members responses or lack thereof. A basic lesson on respect, inclusivity and awareness could go a long way toward opening the hearts and minds of certain council members. I was impressed by Sara Goddard and Pam Tawil’s unwavering support. I hope as you wake today and reflect on the meeting, you get a chance to think about your comments, actions and lack of actions last night and do better going forward. You owe those students, and many offended members of the Rye community, an apology.

Sincerely,

Jessica Reisman
