Rye High Senior is Lost

Rye High SchoolRye High School has lost Morgan Kaplan, a member of the Class of 2022.

“It has been a very difficult day at Rye High School,” said Rye City Schools Superintendent Eric Byrne in a note to the school community Friday afternoon. “Morgan was a wonderful person. Anyone who knew him even a little was treated to his bubbly personality, his quick wit, and his unfailing kindness. He will be very much missed. Students and teachers were deeply impacted by the loss of one of their own.”

Rye City Schools have made support available across its system, and are receiving support from the Rye Youth Council and the Harrison and Pleasantville schools. The Rye PD also brought four BluePath service dogs to the school to provide canine comfort.

Support and bereavement resources are being made available to the community. For those seeking support, counselors will also be in attendance at Friday night’s away varsity football game at Middletown. To locate a counselor at the event, please speak with Dr. Byrne, Athletic Director Susan Reid Dullea, or Assistant Principal Bobby Zegarelli.

On Saturday and Sunday, counselors will be available from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Rye High School media center. Should one prefer to speak to a counselor over the phone, please call 914-967-6100, ext. 6000. All interactions with counselors will be kept private and confidential.
