Today we meet fireman Andy Northshield.
Do you know someone we should interview for Where I Work? Tell us!
Your Name: Andrew Northshield
Your Company: City Of Rye Fire Department
MyRye.com: What do you do?
Northshield: I have been a firefighter with the department since February of 2003. As a firefighter in our department I am responsible for one apparatus (either one of our two engines or our ladder) and the equipment on that apparatus. Our responsibilities are to drive and operate the equipment, as well as to mitigate whatever emergency we happen to be called for. There are myriad types of calls we respond to, including fires, floods, gas leaks, children locked in cars, assists to both Rye Police and EMS, the occasional train derailment, and a host of other hazards.
Where do you work?
Northshield: Our department has two separate firehouses, Headquarters at 15 Locust Avenue and Milton at 560 Milton Road. I, along with my fellow firefighters, don’t have a desk as such, but I guess the closest thing would be the apparatus itself.
Describe your desk and office.
Northshield: Keeping with the desk/office analogy, I don’t have any pictures of my wife and three daughters, no plaques, diplomas or awards adorning any walls. I do have a four-gas meter, binder with running cards, air packs, axes, saws, hoses, ladders, etc…. I guess my office is pretty standard, as far as firetruck offices go.
