The emergency call came in at 1:36pm Thursday …
Ducklings were stuck in two different storm drains at 296 Purchase Street at the corner of Hillside Road and nearby the intersection with Ridge Street and Wappanocca Avenue.
Rye FD’s Engine 191 and Ladder 25 responded to the scene with the requisite equipment to remove storm drain covers. Rye DPW was called to assist with the storm drain removal and rescue and brought a net to secure the mother duck.
In the end five ducklings were recovered from one storm drain and six ducklings were recovered from a second storm drain. The 11 ducklings were then reunited with the mother duck who led her brood into the Blind Brook.
Facilitating this happy ending was Rye FD fire fighters Michael Stoddard and Kevin Ramsey and DPW pros Wayne Daly and George Vega.
