Rye PD arrested a driver on the Boston Post Road Thursday afternoon for possession of a stolen license plate.

At approximately 3:50pm Thursday, City of Rye Police arrested Patrick Smith, age 54, of the Bronx, for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree – a class A misdemeanor and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Privilege in the state of New York.

The Rye officer was patrolling on the Boston Post Road when his license plate reader alerted him to a stolen license plate. A traffic stop was conducted on a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, operated by Smith. The investigation revealed Smith to be in possession of a stolen license plate, and he was subsequently arrested.

Smith was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation Third and issued an appearance ticket returnable to Rye City Court on June 21, 2022, at 9:00am. Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
