Rye Boys Varsity Soccer bit the Huskies Wednesday, clinching the league championship with a 6-0 win at the away game.

“There were two great storylines tonight,” said Rye Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small. “First, our guys played one of their best matches of the season. We were crisp in our passing, brave in our tackles, disciplined in our defending, and smart in the attack. Second, Tommy Broderick scoring 6 goals in the half against a strong opponent is unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like it and it was pure joy to witness. The quality and variety of his finishing was spectacular.”

Tommy Broderick opened the scoring in the 5th minute off a feed from Julian Koide. Nine minutes later, Broderick headed a through ball from Patrick Quinn over the head of the opposing keeper to double the lead. In the 29th minute, Broderick again headed a service, this time from the left foot of Ollie Lincoln.

As rare as his first half hat trick was, there were more first half highlights coming. In the 34th minute, Jonas van Beurden curled a sizzling cross that Broderick emphatically volleyed into the side netting. Two minutes later, Joseph Chai applied a strong press to win the ball in the final third and then fed Broderick to put the Garnets up 5-0. The final goal came with only 2.8 seconds remaining in the half when Broderick intercepted a Harrison pass and fired a shot into the left side to complete the incredible double hat trick.

Ollie Lincoln stood out for his work on the back line, exhibiting strong individual defending against dangerous opposing attacking players and playing with a fantastic sense of calmness on the ball. Max van der Voort and Jack Childs interpreted their center midfield positions brilliantly throughout the night. Goalkeeper Kyan Cox registered his seventh clean sheet of the season.

The Garnets are now 12-3. Watch the replay. Varsity hosts Pelham for its senior night 6pm Saturday (watch it).
