Patrick Joseph O’Leary of Rye, NY passed away on March 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Pat was born on January 1, 1934, in Kilmihil in County Clare, Ireland, the son of Michael J. and Mary (Cosgrove) O’Leary. Pat was the youngest of twelve children.
Pat honorably served his country in the US Army and later began his career as a NYC Police Officer. He was a proud member of the Ancient order of Hibernians, Division 5, originally Division 11.
Pat was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara, on February 8, 2018. He was also predeceased by two sons: Patrick and Brian O’Leary.
Pat is survived by his children: Kevin (Noreen) O’Leary, Barbara (Oliver) Hughes, Noreen (Mark) Marpet, and Sean (Susann) O’Leary, thirteen grandchildren and one sister Catherine. Pat was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews in Australia, Canada, Ireland and here in the US.
Pat will always be remembered as a loving father, husband, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, and dear friend and was described by many as “bigger than life!”
Friends may call at the Graham Funeral Home, 1036 Boston Post Road, Rye, NY on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday March 9, at the Church of the Resurrection at 11 AM. The Mass will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person.
