Margaret G. “Peggy” Callahan, 97, of Groton, passed away May 3, 2023, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. Peggy was born June 23, 1925, in Rye, N.Y., daughter of George and Mary Evelyn Drinkwater Gibson. She met and married her high school sweetheart Arthur Callahan prior to making Groton, CT her home and raising four sons.
She is survived by her sons, William and his wife Beverly of Newark, Del., Peter and his wife Pam of Concord, Mass., and Richard and his wife Linda of Charlotte, N.C.; her sister Georgeann Gibson of Groton; and her two grandchildren, Sydney and Nina Callahan. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Art; and her son Henry “Hank” Callahan.
The family would like to thank Mary and the Care at Home agency for taking good care of Peggy in the last few months.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 16, at Sacred Heart Church, 52 Sacred Heart Drive, Groton. Interment will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
