Let the Kids Play, the local group advocating for more field space, recently held a fall field day on the Nugent Stadium Turf to bring together younger kids for a day of games with Rye High School athletes. Over 200 kids attended and enjoyed activities from football to face painting.
The group has collected pledges to fund the cost of turf fields in Rye. The group says it is agnostic as the where the turf fields go and has $1.5 million in private funds committed for turf field projects. It has lined up behind the efforts to convert Nursery Field to turf, a proposal that has created controversy due to wetlands and flooding issues in the area.
