Stanley Bernstein

Stanley Bernstein was born on January 9, 1923, in New York. In Rye, his family resided at 6 Evergreen Avenue. The household included his father Louis, his mother Roslyn, and his younger sister Theodora. Stanley’s father had a high school education and worked as a proprietor, while his mother had a high school education and was a homemaker.

Stanley proudly graduated from Rye High School as part of the class of 1940. During his time in high school, Stanley was known for his self-reliance and participated in various musical activities, including the school band, orchestra, and dance band. He was also a member of the radio club and drivers club.

Following high school, Stanley enrolled in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, majoring in electrical engineering. He was elected president of the Radio Club while attending college. On January 12, 1944, Stanley enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

In October 1944, it was announced that Stanley had married Meta Goldberg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Goldberg from the Bronx. Stanley, serving in the U. S. Army Signal Corps, returned to his post at Fort Monmouth, N. J, after a short wedding trip. He continued to serve with the Signal Corps throughout the remainder of the war. The Eastern Signal Corps Training Center at Fort Monmouth included an officers’ school, officer candidate school, enlisted school, and a basic training center. Stanley received an honorable discharge from the army on April 27, 1946.

Stanley Bernstein passed away on June 26, 2007, at the age of 84. He was the beloved husband of Meta Bernstein (Nee Goldberg) and the father of Theodore, Paul (Susan), and Barry (Colleen) Bernstein. He was also the loving grandfather of Avi (Andrea), Rebecca (Michael Carter), Sari, Aaron, Rachel, and Samuel Bernstein, as well as a great-grandfather to Jacob Bernstein. Stanley was the brother of Theodora (Murray) Gershuny and is survived by other relatives and friends. More on Bernstein.
