Rye Boys Varsity Hockey was pitchforked by the upstate D1 power Clarence Red Devils during their season opener on Saturday. The Devils scorched the Garnets 6 – 4.

“We got into penalty trouble early and had to dig ourselves out of a hole,” said Rye Boys Varsity Hockey Coach Peter Thomas. “We showed a lot of heart battling back in this game and it could have gone either way.”

Game highlights included:

  • Rye scoring: Trevor Dolan (1st varsity goal) assisted by Nick Doyle (1st varsity point)
  • Ryan Draddy (1st varsity goal) assisted by Jamie Showers and Henry Bagley
  • Dean Kim assisted by Nick Doyle and Seth Dorfman
  • Brandon Morgan made 24 saves on 30 shots and Owen Fitzgibbons made 4 saves on 4 shots in relief

The team is now 0 – 1. The Garnets travel to Clarkstown North/South Coop for a game Wednesday at 6:15pm.
