In Memory: Bernard ” Bernie” Sheldon Shapiro, Age 89
Bernard ” Bernie” Sheldon Shapiro, born February 24, 1934, in Bronx, New York, departed this life on December 26, 2023, in the company of loving family. Bernie spent his formative years in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He received an Associates degree in Merchandising from Rider College, followed by 2 years in the U.S. Army.
During his early adult life, he lived in Manhattan and Rye, New York. He moved to Florida in 1980 which he considered paradise until his last breath. He loved the warmth, the water and the palm trees. His careers included retail management at Korvette’s and Zayre’s Department Stores and real estate.
Bernie spent the last 30 years working as a Realtor with Braun and May, Better Homes and Gardens, and, most recently with his second family, at Coldwell Banker in Hollywood. He married the love of his life, Janet Greaves, July 2, 1989, and made their home in Hollywood, Florida. Bernie loved music, old movies, politics and was an avid sports fan.
He was predeceased by his parents Irving and Blanche (nee Rothenberg) Shapiro and step-children Gail Barry and Cliff Kornfield. He is survived by his beautiful wife Janet, brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Peggy (nee Monaghan) Shapiro, their children and grandchildren Lisa Lambert (Paul), son Ryan and Jeff Shapiro (Katie) sons Lennan and Dylan, step-daughters Susan Pence, Laurie Hutton (Bill), Elaine Momplaisir (Willie), Rikki Johnson (George), and Wendy Kornfield. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. His was laid to rest at Menorah Gardens, Southwest Ranches, Florida. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
