This past Friday the Osborn Elementary School got a new playground. Principal Angela Garcia approached the school’s PTO Executive board in the spring of 2023 with a goal of rebuilding the outdated Bear Playground.

The PTO formed a playground subcommittee of parent volunteers who teamed up with Rye City School District Facilities Director Rob Gimigliano and Site Specialists of New York to create the rebuild design. The goal was to create a playground that would work within the existing space and incorporate aspects of the playground that the children enjoyed the most, and equipment that would maximize the amount of children who could play at a given time.

The playground committee launched the fundraising campaign in September and with the help of many generous families, and The Osborn senior living facility adjacent to the school campus who contributed $10,000 toward the playground, the effort meet their fundraising goal in less than two weeks. The school district had Corsetti Contracting in Mamaroneck complete the demolition of the existing grounds and construction of the new playground during the winter recess in December.

On Friday, January 12th, the playground inspection was completed and the new Bear Playground was officially opened with the Osborn students racing to try their new play space.
