The Rye Boys Varsity Squash A Team notched its first victory of the season in a closely contested match against Westport Staples on Tuesday night at Chelsea Piers.
Charlie Rodilosso, Andrew Chun and Nicolas Echlov cruised to wins in the top three seeded matches, while Niklas Hofmann won what proved to be the winning point in the sixth seed match.
The Westport Staples stepped up their play in the late round matches that all went to fourth and fifth games, squeaking out wins against Shaddi Ibrahim, Ben Laschever and Andrew Latara — but it was too little too late for Westport, as the Garnets had already clinched the 4-3 victory. Harry Swanson also won the exhibition match for added emphasis to close out the night.
The Boys Varsity A team match schedule heats up in mid-January with an aim towards qualifying for High School Nationals in late February.
