Al’s Service Station Going to Stay

We were distressed when we heard Al Sr. and Al Jr., the father-son team at Al’s Service Station on the Post Road in Rye had closed Saturdays and put the station up for sale.

What a nice surprise when Al Jr. picked up the phone the other day (he had temporarily left for another garage in Porchester) and reported the station is off the market and that they have re-opened on Saturday (8am – 1pm).

With the exception of some commercial property right in town, Al’s Station is the only commercial property on the whole of the Post Road in Rye (this is in stark contrast to Mamaroneck and Larchmont). The Station has a special grandfather exemption that allows it to be a residential property or a gas station (sorry Starbuck’s, we don’t want you there anyway).

Al’s is the type of place where they know your name, they charge fair prices and if you need to, you can pay tomorrow. We are pleased they are still in the neighborhood.
