Harrison Gets “Opulent” Plug in The New York Times
The Town of Harrison has a great write-up in this Sunday’s New York Times real estate section. The Times refers to our neighbors as "A Lovely Stretch of Suburban Opulence". Some interesting items from the article:
- Harrison is 22 square miles and includes Westchester Airport, the State University of New York at Purchase, Manhattanville College and PepsiCo Headquarters.PepsiCo Headquarters is home to a beautiful sculpture garden. This from the PepsiCo web site: "PepsiCo World Headquarters is located in Purchase, New York, approximately 45 minutes from New York City. The seven-building headquarters complex was designed by Edward Durrell Stone, one of America’s foremost architects. The building occupies 10 acres of a 144-acre complex that includes the Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens, a world- acclaimed sculpture collection in a garden setting. The collection of works is focused on major twentieth century art, and features works by masters such as Auguste Rodin, Henri Laurens, Henry Moore, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Arnaldo Pomodoro and Claes Oldenberg. The gardens originally were designed by the world famous garden planner, Russell Page, and have been extended by François Goffinet. The grounds are open to the public, and a visitor’s booth is in operation during the spring and summer.
- The median price of a single family home in Harrison is $1.55 million.
- The one let down in Harrison is the commercial strip of Halstead Avenue. Granted it is nothing great, but there are diamonds in the rough such as Select Wines and Casa D’Italia.
- Harrison High has its own planetarium that seats 60.
- Out of 199 students graduating in 2005, 74% attended a four-year college and 14% attended a two-year college.
