Wreaths Across America Visits Rye, NY

Arlington_wreathsOne event from the holiday season should not go by without proper acknowledgment. On December 13, 2007, Rye Mayor Steve Otis, Rye City Councilman Mack Cunningham and American Legion Post 128 welcomed Wreaths Across America for a short ceremony at City Hall honoring our veterans.

The effort, started in 1992 by the Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine, brings 18,000 wreaths each holiday season to lay on the tombstones of our nation’s veterans and fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery and other locations.

On December 13, 10,000 of those wreaths being carried in two tractor trailers and accompanied by Patriot Guard Riders on the way from Maine to Arlington, stopped in Rye.

Mayor Otis presented Morrill Worcester, owner of the Worcester Wreath Company and founder of Wreaths Across America, the keys to Rye City.
