Obama-Nation? Top of the Hill? Mack the Knife?
It’s Super Tuesday so get out and vote early and often. And then tune into CNN Rye TV to listen to the post-game analysis. Wolf Blitzer is so yesterday.
(Photo: Wolf Blitzer, media agitator) Listen to former Rye Mayor and the election analysis emcee John Carey on his new show, “Rye Pundits View the Candidates”. The show airs each Saturday on Rye Channel 76 at ten minutes after 9 am, noon, 3 pm, 6 pm and 9 pm. The second episode will be taped tomorrow and aired on Saturday.
There is no writer’s strike at Rye TV, so expect lots of fresh timely material from Carey’s guests this week, independent Bertrand de Frondeville and Democrat Mitch Silver. de Frondeville returns from episode one.
Silver spoke with MyRye.com to give us his punditry preview:
Where do you live in Rye?
3 Greenacres Drive / Midland. Previously, in reverse chronological order:
5 Red Oak /Milton; 46 Centre Street / Midland; 21 Park Street /Milton
Your Day Job: I write novels.
FYI, I used to be an advertising creative director. Here’s the blurb from my website: Mitch Silver was born in Brooklyn and grew up on Long Island. He attended Yale and Harvard Law School (“I lasted three days. I know everything through Wednesday, but after that…”). Mitch has been an advertising writer for several of the big New York agencies (“I named Purina O.N.E. dog food. Really.”), and spent a year living in Paris with his wife, Ellen Highsmith Silver, while he was European Creative Director on the Colgate-Palmolive account.
Mitch and Ellen live in Rye, New York, and have two children: Sloane is a nurse in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Perry is an actor and the drummer for The Fabulous Entourage band in New York. Mitch won the American Song Festival Lyric Grand Prize for "Sleeping Single in a Double Bed." His blood type is O positive. In Secret Service is his first novel.
Your Political Affiliation: Democrat.
Handicap the Election: who runs and who wins?
John McCain, 50.1%, Hillary Clinton, 49.9% (don’t know what the Electoral College and then the Supreme Court will make of this, though I have my concerns.)
Which candidate do you want to win?
Barack Obama. He’s against the war, he’s charismatic and he’s a leader in an inclusive way.
What is the greatest opportunity for our next American President when he or she takes office in January 2009?
To end the war in Iraq.
What, if anything, is “broken” about American politics today?
You name it, it’s broken.
How else are you involved in the community?
Write the movie reviews for the Rye Record, previously President of Rye Youth Soccer.
P.S. I went to college with the President [George Bush].
