All Men in Rye: Pick-up The Phone Now
Today MyRye.com's restaurant columnist Diana Tapper tells all husbands, fiances and boyfriends: pick up the phone, make the "reso".
(PHOTO: Do this, phone now) It's not too late to make dinner reservations for Valentine's Day. And since the big day falls on a Sunday this year, you can spread the love out over the weekend and patronize one of the Rye restaurants creating specials just for you.
Here's a listing of restaurants with availability and what they are offering. But call soon – most require reservations and some are selling out fast.
La Panetiere – no surprise that the most romantic restaurant in Rye is sold out in the main dining room for Valentine's Sunday, but there are tables in the greenhouse and there is availability on Feb 12th and 13th. They'll be having a special Valentine's Day lunch on Saturday and Sunday with a special dinner menu Friday the 12th through Monday the 15th. You can view the menus on their website at www.lapanetiere.com. (967-8140)
Aurora will have their regular menu, but will also showcase a special a la carte menu that offers lobster minestrone, spaghetti with king crab, and includes rumored aphrodisiacs like truffles and oysters. (921-2333)
Whitby Castle will feature a 6-course prix fixe dinner for $150 per couple. Get there early for the view, as the sun goes down soon after their 5pm opening. (777-2053)

Rye Roadhouse will be offering a prix fixe dinner for two on Valentine's Day. Details are still being worked out but expect updates on their website – www.theryeroadhouse.com. (925-2668)
Frankie & Johnnie's will have their regular menu, but they are opening early on Valentine's Sunday, with dinner starting at 2pm instead of the usual 5pm. (925-3900)
Ruby's (921-4166), Koo(921-9888), and Rye Grill and Bar (967-0332) will have their regular menu with a few specials on Valentine's Day itself, while Morgans will extend the specials over the weekend.
Cafe Livorno (967-1909) will be doing a special menu made up of regular items and specials just on Valentine's Day.
And if none of these appeal to you, we welcome you to follow our tradition, avoid the hype, and pick up oysters from Ruby's, prepared foods from Rye Country Store or June & Ho, buy a bottle of champagne from Ralph's and make a romantic picnic at home.
Happy Valentine's Day!
