At the beginning of every meeting, the superintendent of schools, Dr. Shine, provides a report to the Board and community. At this meeting Dr. Shine shared information and achievements in the following areas of student life: Rye Boys' Ice Hockey Team divisional playoff results.
He then focused on academic programs that are at the heart of our mission: AP Economics, the most popular AP course at the high school; Mrs. Gaillard's 8th grade Earth Science class; elementary literacy centers such as the one in Ms. Hurta's 2nd grade Osborn classroom; 6th grade French class, where Mme. Kent uses the same "Total Physical Environment" techniques the students use in the elementary Spanish FLES classes; the arts, as exemplified by the Milton 5th grade Monet Luncheon, Midland teacher Brett Reilly's unit on 3-D objects and the Parsons Street Players' hit show, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
