Trees Down, Power Outages in Rye: Send MyRye.com Your Pics

UPDATE 11 PM Sunday from Rye PD / Commish Connors:

Con Ed reports that approximately 187,000 customers were affected by the storm system-wide, far exceeding the number of outages caused by Hurricane Gloria in 1985, when 110,515 customers lost power.  Last report was 79,000 outages in Westchester County.

Significant progress has been made in restoring power this evening. A sizeable portion of the city was in darkness at peak. Aside from sporadic outages, the following areas are reported without power at this time:

Central Avenue from Fremd Ave, to Post Road, including the Loewen Court area
Rye High School
Milton Road from Apawamis Avenue to the vicinity of #15, including Blind Brook Lodge
All churches along Milton Road except Christ Church
Maple Avenue to Glendale Road, including the Ives and Greenwood Union Cemetery
Glendale Road
Pondview Close/Sharon Lane/Marlene Court
Small area of Ridgewood Drive

The following roads remain closed:
Vicinity of 1000 Forest Avenue
Grace Church Street from the Fireman’s Monument to the Five Points; completion expected approximately 2:00 A.M.
Manursing Avenue, Cedar Place to Midland Avenue, expected to be completed midday Monday
Forest Avenue, Manursing Way to Gramercy Avenue

There are numerous trees and wires down, and residents should be reminded to avoid downed wires and treat all as if they were live.

Rye City Schools will be closed on Monday.

Since Midnight on Saturday, January 13th, the Department has recorded 182 calls for service, 148 of which appear to be storm related (not including incidental activity — moving tree limbs, etc.), and Department of Public Works staff has worked around the clock.

This writer saw a tree down on Florence Avenue Saturday and wants to send kudos to the Rye PD and Rye Department of Public Works. One call to the PD and the DPW guys were there in about 10 minutes making fast work of one large piece of wood. Nice job.
