Archie On Purdy: Wednesday 11am
A new Archie comics postage stamp will be dedicated at the Rye Post Office on 41 Purdy Avenue this Wednesday, July 21 at 11am. Philatelists purchasing the "Sunday Funnies" stamp pane on Wednesday will receive an Archie comic book. Archie comics debuted in newspapers in 1946.
In addition to all the Archie goods, Rye stamp fans will have the chance to meet Nancy Silberkleit, Co-CEO Archie
Comics; Debra Jones, USPS Westchester District Marketing Manager and Robert McCarthy, Rye Acting Postmaster.
Archie comics is actually headquartered in Mamaroneck. So why this is happening in Rye is a mystery to us. Anyone?
Mrs. Silberkleit was a resident of Greenhaven,Rye. Perhaps that is why the event is being held at the Rye Post Office.
Thanks, myRye for passing on this info. What a shame that the USPS didn’t actually promote the event in any of our other local media. First Day of Issue events, while relatively common, are extremely rare for our little city. Wish I could be there as these can be a lot of fun!
I heard that the turnout was disappointingly small – the Mayor, one resident, and a couple of photographers. Too bad.
That makes sense, Robert. The Mayor himself is disappointingly small.
Ouch!
Oh, my. And this started out as such a civilized thread.
