We are hooked on pupusas. First it was pupusas – corn tortillas stuffed with goodness – at Rinconcito Migueleno in Port Chester. Now it seems like pupusas are spreading like wildfire – faster than coyotes in Rye.

This time we went pupusa hunting at Super Pan Bakery in Mamaroneck. A more casual place than it pupusa cousin, Super Pan has an array of Guatemalan food as well as a kid friendly Super Pan Burger and nachos for those more conservative eaters in the group.

We enjoyed an order of pupusas and an order of garnachas – fried tortillas with grilled beef & onion, sauce, cheese and coleslaw.

In addition to trying the pupusas, our seven year old put away some nachos and a bright green (nuclear green actually) Salvavidas lemon soda (photo, at top). The sodas are a real treat since they come on those old thick glass bottles you had when you were a kid.

Super Pan is a pleasure – a casual place that is kid friendly and a great alternative to another night at the pizza joint. Dinner for three of us – including the nuclear soda – was about $30.

Super Pan also seems to be among a growing crop of fun, approachable restaurants along Mamaroneck Avenue. If this trend keeps up, Mamaroneck will give Port Chester a run for it money as a hot bed of restaurants and a magnet for those that appreciate good food.
