Durland Anchor Finally Finds New Digs
The Durland Anchor has finally found a new home in front Rye's Milton Point Hose Company.
The Durland Anchor used to sit in front of the Durland Scout Center on Milton Point. When Durland was torn down to make way for luxury homes, the Rye FD came in and saved the Durland Anchor.
In addition to being a reminder of the loss of Durland, the anchor represents American military history. The anchor is from the the USS Boston (CA-69/CAG-1), a Baltimore-class heavy
cruiser that was launched in 1942 and saw service in World War II and
Vietnam before finally being decommissioned in 1970.
Back in February retired Rye City Court Judge John L. Alfano told MyRye.com the story of how the anchor from the USS Boston came to Rye.
Thank You Rye Fire – you have done a beautiful job.
