Rye High to Perform The Laramie Project as its Fall Play
The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman and the members of the Techtonic Theater Project will be performed by the Rye High School Parsons Street Players on October 22 (8pm) and 23 (2pm and 8pm) in the school's Performing Arts Center.
The Laramie Project was written from over 200 interviews conducted with the residents of Laramie, Wyoming, site of the October 1998 Matthew Shepard torture and murder. It is a chronicle of the life of Laramie in the year after the murder. The play was selected by the Rye High students, who felt it was important to make a statement as a school community against hate and prejudice.
"This play is especially relevant in light of the recent tragedies in this country involving young gay men," says Michael Limone, the school's theater arts teacher.
A cast of more than 30 students and 16 faculty members will act in the play. The set will feature the photography of Rye High's digital photography classes.
