Retired Rye PD Officer Holds Fundraiser Thursday for Daughter’s Rare Disease

Retired Rye Police Officer Jeff Golanec’s nine year old daughter Kaela has Friedreich’s Ataxia. It is a very rare, progressive, nuero-muscular disease. It is a form of muscular dystrophy which is a life shortening disease.
Thursday between 12pm and 4pm there is a fundraiser for disease research on July 28th at the White Plains Outback Steakhouse.
Golanec told MyRye.com "the fund raiser [is] to raise awareness about the disease. The not for profit organization we are holding the fund raiser for is leading the effort to find a treatment and or a cure for the disease Friedreich's Ataxia. They are called FARA (Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance)… This disease is a life shortening disease and will have my daughter confined to a wheel chair with the inability to care for herself in the future. Right now she remains mobile but since it is a progressive disease tomorrow will never be as good as today."

The cost is $25.00 and 100% of the proceeds collected by Outback Steakhouse will be donated to the not for profit organization FARA (Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance ). This organization is leading the efforts in hoping to discover a treatment to slow down the progression of Friedreich’s Ataxia and the hopes to find a cure. Please join the Golanec family and friends for a great lunch for a great cause. No reservations or tickets needed. Just please show up the day of the event.
