Rye City lost its Building Inspector and friend Vincenzo (Vinny) Tamburro yesterday. Rye City Manager Scott Pickup told MyRye.com "We are all feeling the loss of a colleague and a friend, and our hearts are open to Karen and the family."

The city released a statement this afternoon. Please feel free to leave any thoughts in memorial as a comment below.

It is with great sadness that the City of Rye announces the unexpected passing of the Building Inspector Vincenzo (Vinny) Tamburro on August 31, 2011. Vinny first worked with the City between May 1989 and May 1996 as the assistant to the City Engineer. Vinny returned in April 1997 to assume the responsibilities of Building Inspector. He was a member of the New York State Building Officials Conference, National Fire Protection Agency, and the American Public Works Association. He had twenty-four years of experience working with three different municipalities. Vinny worked tirelessly for the residents of Rye, particularly during the most recent storm. He was a treasured friend and colleague to the Rye City staff. He is survived by his wife, Karen, two daughters Taylor and Morgan, and two sons Jake and Kyle. Mayor Douglas French noted “the City is filled with great sadness today with the sudden passing of Vinny Tamburo.  In his quiet and principled way, Vinny served with great dedication and made Rye a much better place.  He is missed and will be for a very long time.  Our hearts go out to his wife Karen and 4 beautiful children.”

  1. I’m sorry to here about your loss. I know it is hard to adjust, but I pray you may find peace knowing that you will see him again. Not only do our spirits live on after death, but all will one day be resurrected, restored to the body, never to die again. Stay faithful to Christ and trust in our Heavenly Father’s plan. Families can be together forever.

    Sincerely,
    Quinton Owens (Building Inspector)
