Less Tape, Barking, Paper or Reusable?—Items on the Agenda for City Council Meeting Wednesday, October 19, 2011

The city council's agenda for its meeting on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 is out. See you at 8:00pm in Council Chambers in City Hall. The Council will convene earlier at 7:30 pm and it is expected they will adjourn into Executive Session at 7:31 pm to discuss real estate matters.

Meetings are also aired on Cablevision Channel 75 and Verizon Channel 39. We'll also see you on the Internet (live and archive). Office Hours of the Mayor on October 19th will be held from 7:00pm – 7:30pm in the Mayor’s Conference Room.

Let's check the batting order and highlights from the 17 agenda items.

  • A Life of Service, Thank You. Moment of Silence and Remembrance for former Mayor Mary Ann Ilse
  • Doug's Details. Mayor’s Management Report – Update on the Rye Historical Walking Tour; Financial Update on 3rd Quarter results; Legal Update
  • Less Tape. Discussion of amending City of Rye Local Law Chapter 53, “Architectural Review” to
    reduce the number of applications subject to architectural review.
  • Woof, Maybe Some Barking. Follow-up discussion of Rye Town Park policy on dogs and the City of Rye Local Law Chapter 76, “Dogs”.
  • Open Mic. Residents may be heard who have matters to discuss that do not appear on the agenda. Always a crowd pleaser…
  • Down the Drain. Consideration of referral to the Board of Architectural Review the Special Permit
    Application submitted by United Water Westchester, Inc. for the installation of towers and
    telecommunications equipment to collect billing information.
  • Paper or Reusable? Consideration to set a Public Hearing to add a proposed Local Law to prohibit the use of plastic bags by Rye Merchants.
  • If You See Something… Authorization for the City Manager to enter into an Intermunicipal Agreement with the County of Westchester for the distribution of Homeland Security funded equipment.
  • Patronage. Three appointments to the Rye Golf Club Commission by the Council for three-year terms expiring January 1, 2015, one appointment for a one-year term expiring January 1, 2013, and the designation of one member to the Rye Golf Club Nominating Committee.

The next regular meeting of the City Council will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011.

A special meeting of the City Council will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 for the
presentation of the 2012 Budget.

  1. You have got to be kidding…no plastic bags for garbage…what a mess that would be. I would just put my filled, plastic bags inside a paper bag if that law ever came to pass! There is no way I am going to have soggy garbage bags sitting around waiting for pick up.

    The way the agenda item reads it seems like they are talking about what the merchants put sold items into. If they are referring to “garbage” I totally agree with you, that would be insane and unsanitary, can’t imagine the NYS Health Department agreeing with that!!!
