Rye Town Supervisor to Run for US Senate vs. Gillibrand
Rye Town Supervisor Joe Carvin has announced a run for US Senate vs. Kirsten Gillibrand.
Rye Town is a relic of this areas original settlement and oversees remarkably little, including some cemeteries and parks. In Rye City, the Town oversees Rye Town park and the small public access strip on land (concrete) adjacent to American Yacht Club on Milton Point. Carvin has been a proponent of dissolving Rye Town entirely. Maybe he will do the same with the US Senate…

Twice-Elected in 2-1 Democrat -Republican Registered Town,
Carvin Brings Worldwide Experience, Fiscal Expertise to Election
Rye Brook, New York – Feb. 29 — Joe Carvin, 57, the popular (twice elected – most recently – Nov. 2011- in a 62%-38% landslide) Republican Rye Town Supervisor best known for working to eliminate his own job in an effort to streamline local government and lower property taxes, today announced that he will run for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate to challenge New York's junior senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-WFP.) "I have decided to run for the office of U.S. Senate because I believe that our representatives in Washington have provided us with an economic framework that severely undermines our competitive position in the world today," said Carvin, an agricultural investor.
"Moreover, if we do not act now, and with urgency, our competitive position risks dramatic deterioration. Time is running out. The time to act is now."
Carvin's decision to enter the competitive arena of state-wide politics is not taken in haste. It is borne of his long-time concern that the United States' fiscal situation is dire, that no one in New York political life has made a proper effort to explain the country's economic crisis to the public, and that it is essential that informed citizens become active in public life.
Carvin has practiced what he preaches on the local level. Determined to rid Rye Town of an ethically challenged and fiscally irresponsible Democratic administration, his first campaign for Rye Town Supervisor in 2007 was a major success, and in the ensuing four years he cut taxes by double digits in each and every year, lowered Town expenses by 25% by trimming excesses out of the Town budget, and is currently responsible for a major study (conducted by the Rochester based good government firm CGR – see https://www.cgr.org/ryetown/) that is examining whether the Town (and Carvin's job) should be eliminated, and the Town's services taken over and/or shared by the local Villages within the Town. Throughout his term in office Carvin has worked for the Town without salary.
Carvin is uniquely qualified to bring a vision, a life experience, and a voice absent from New York politics, both Republican and Democratic. He speaks five languages fluently (including French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Wolof), has lived, worked and travelled worldwide since winning an AFS Scholarship as a Port Chester (NY) high school senior, has a BA from Tulane, an MBA from NYU, and a Masters in Government from the Kennedy School at Harvard, and is married (with two public elementary school children) to Rozlyn who is a barrister in the London bar.
Carvin, an agricultural investor, has worked extensively in emerging markets, travelling across the globe. Building on his international experience Carvin founded a charity whose ideas of virtue and global reach was originally put forth by Benjamin Franklin in 1731. The charity called One World United and Virtuous is an educational institution that seeks to promote character education and worldwide understanding among both youth and adults.
The charity, headquartered in Port Chester, most recently sponsored an evening on understanding India with representatives of the America-India Foundation.
Also in the Carvin charitable arena is the non-profit Building Community Bridges, designed to encourage person-to-person friendships among the many races, ethnicities, and social classes and religious groups within Rye Town. Building Community Bridges is best known in the Town of Rye for working with high school students from Blind Brook, Port Chester, and Rye Neck High Schools in the Town of Rye to offer an after school hours civics course given by Duke University Professor William Tobin.
The "Team Carvin" behind Carvin's Senate campaign comprises friends with national experience in the media, law, finance, and government who worry for their nation and believe sitting on the sidelines and complaining is NOT an alternative.
