Suzanne Clary over at Jay Heritage is hitting the history books hard today… it must be back to school:
On this Day in Paris – September 3, 1783, John Jay, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams signed the Treaty of Paris "The Definitive Treaty of Peace Recognizing the Independence of the United States" which would end the Revolutionary War. A plaque to this event was mounted at the location of the Hotel D'York at 56 Rue Jacob through the efforts of one of John Jay's descendants, John Jay Ide. For many years it was mistakenly believed that the ceremony took place at Versailles. Jay would later return home to celebrate this extraordinary achievement with friends and family at his home in Rye.
